Registering a domain - questions and answers
What are valid characters for domain names?
Valid characters are English alphabet letters A through Z and the numbers 0 through 9. You may also use hyphens (-), but your domain cannot begin or end in a hyphen, nor can you have two hyphens in a row.
Spaces and special characters (such as !, $, and so on) are invalid.
How many characters can I use in a domain name?
The maximum length is 63 characters. Domain names are not case sensitive, meaning you can access and display your name in advertising in upper or lower case; or even a combination of both.
How do I check domain name availability?
Use the domain name search facility above. Search results will be displayed and you will then have the option to proceed with registering your chosen name if it is available.
Are there any extra costs in addition to the domain name registration price?
There are absolutely no hidden fees. All prices include registration and full management. Licence and Pricing Schedule
Do I have to use my domain name as soon as I register it?
No. It's your choice as to when you establish your web presence - but when you're ready to, we also offer world class email hosting and web hosting services at very reasonable prices. By hosting with us, you can keep all your Internet presence services under the one virtual roof!
I want to register some domains but don't need hosting at the present time, is that ok?
Yes. You are under no obligation whatsoever to purchase email services or web hosting from our company, although when you do find you need of these services, we hope you'll consider the email-only or full featured hosting plans we have available.
If I register my Internet domain with you, can I host my web site elsewhere?
Yes, you have full control over your domain as it will be registered to you or your business. Our web hosting packages are very competitive with an excellent range of features, but you are free to host with any web hosting company you choose. If you elect to host elsewhere we will delegate your domain at no cost; i.e. "point" the domain name to your selected hosting service.
How many available domain names can I register?
There isn't any limit to the number of names you can register. Some people are registering hundreds of domains! You'll be able to keep track of them all through our domains management interface.
If I am ineligible for a com.au domain name, what choices do I have?
There may be another Australian domain name extension (for example net.au, asn.au, org.au or gov.au) you can search for that may be more appropriate for your organisation. Otherwise, select a domain name extension that has less strict allocation policies; for example: .com, .net .org., .info, or .biz.
We offer further details below regarding Internet domain registration eligibility criteria.
